Privacy Policy

WordAxle is a daily word-guessing puzzle. We collect the minimum information needed to run the game and (for signed-in players) to track your scores and let you share results with friends. We don't sell your data, we don't share it with data brokers, and we don't advertise inside the game.

WordAxle is operated from the United States. You can reach us anytime via the Contact Support form in the app's Settings.

You can play the daily puzzle without signing in. If you choose to create an account or use the site while signed in, we collect the following:

• Account info: email address (required), and an optional display name you choose
• Game activity: the puzzles you complete, your guesses, your scores, and your axle attempts
• Share channels: the channels you create or join, and the daily-score messages you choose to share into them
• Preferences: sound, dark mode, and similar settings (stored in your browser's local storage — never sent to us)
• Technical info: IP address, browser user-agent, and request timestamps — written to our server logs and used for security, abuse prevention, and debugging
• Analytics: aggregated, anonymized usage events (which features get used, where errors happen) via PostHog
• Advertising: if you arrived from a Google Ads click, Google's tag records that the visit happened so they can optimize ad targeting. We don't pass account info to Google for this purpose.

• Run the game (load puzzles, record guesses, build stats)
• Authenticate you on return visits (Sign in with Google, or email magic links)
• Let you share scores with friends in private channels you create
• Send transactional email (sign-in links, channel invites, and replies to support requests)
• Investigate abuse, fix bugs, and understand which features people use
• Measure how well our ads are working (in aggregate, never tied to individual gameplay)

We rely on a small set of service providers. Each receives only the data needed to do its job.

• Amazon Web Services — hosts the site (Amplify) and stores your data (DynamoDB), in US regions
• Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, your Google account email is shared with us
• Resend — delivers transactional email on our behalf
• PostHog — receives anonymized usage events (page views, button clicks, errors)
• Google Ads — records ad-click conversions so we can measure campaign performance

We use cookies and browser storage for essential things (your sign-in session, your theme and audio preferences) and for analytics and advertising attribution (PostHog and Google Ads). You can clear them at any time via your browser settings.

Account and game data are kept for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your data deleted, send us a message through the Contact Support form and we'll remove it. Server logs are kept for a short rolling window for debugging and security.

You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct inaccuracies, or ask us to delete your account at any time through the Contact Support form. If you're in a jurisdiction that grants additional rights (such as the EEA or California), those rights apply here too.

WordAxle isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.

We may update this policy as the product evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be surfaced in the app before they take effect.
